Abortion, termination of pregnancy before the foetus is capable of independent life. When the expulsion form the uterus occurs after the foetus becomes viable (capable of independent life), usually at the end of six months of pregnancy, it is technically a premature birth.
Abortion may be spontaneous or induced. Expelled fetuses weighing less than 0.5kg or of less than 20 weeks’ gestation are usually considered abortions. In spontaneous abortion it is estimated that some 25 per cent of all human pregnancies terminate spontaneously in abortion, with three out of four abortions occurring during the fist three months of pregnancy. Some women apparently have a tendency to abort, and recurrent abortion decreases the probability of subsequent successful childbirth. Induced abortion is the deliberate termination of pregnancy by removal of the foetus from the uterus. It is currently performed by any of four standards procedures, according to the period of gestation. Suction, or vacuum aspiration, is used in the first trimester (up to 12 weeks).
Abortion destroys the lives of helpless, innocent children, and is illegal in many countries. By aborting these unborn infants, humans are hurting themselves; they are not allowing themselves to meet these new identities and unique personalities. Abortion is very simply wrong.
One form of abortion is to cut the foetus into pieces with serrated forceps before being removed, piece by piece from the uterus by suction with a vacuum aspirator. Another form consists of bringing the foetus feet first into the birth canal, puncturing its skull with a sharp instrument and sucking out the brain tissue. The body parts, such as the head, are given letters, rather than refer to the parts as what they are. The remains of the foetus or embryo, as the case may be, are put into everyday, plasticbuckets and then sent to a dumpster where these precious bones and limbs are disposed. However, how and when an abortion takes place are matter of little importance to pro-abortionists and other defenders. Even former abortion practitioners from varying backgrounds and religions have a new view on abortion.
Others have different opinions. Abortion clinics are not a “butcher’s place” where young babies are murdered. They provide a choice for women whether or not to bring a child into this world. What is worse: taking away the life of an unborn child that is not even aware of life itself yet, or a mother brining an unwanted child into this world, knowing that she will not be able to take care of it, and that her childwill have to suffer from the poor circumstances in which she lives. As of now the woman has the ability to make that choice and save the child from poor, possibly abusive or hate-filled environment. Because living in a circumstance such as abuse is worse than the abortion of the foetus. Rape victims should also be able to have an abortion because they know that if they were to keep the child, they would cringe when she thought about whom contributed to the other half of the child. The offspring will be a painful reminder to the rape victim. She did not choose to take the responsibility of a child and therefore should not have to pay the consequences. A woman who cannot love her child has no right to have a baby in the first place.
One option for women who are not able to take care of their baby is adoption. Yet she will have to carry the baby for nine months and then give it up. Not all women are able to do this physically or psychologically. After the pregnancy she will have to hope that their baby will find a good and loving home. And this is not always the case. The child will possibly have to suffer from living in orphanages waiting to get adopted. Adoption cannot always be seen as a good solution to unwanted pregnancies.
Abortion is illegal in Mauritius! However in many countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, and the United States abortion is allowed upto a certain month or weeks of pregnancy. Before we talk about if abortion should legal or not in Mauritius, lets have a deep insight about the main reasons why pregnant women want to go for abortion and what are the dangers and good parts.
Pregnancy is not always a result of a want from a woman! Some girls do get pregnant due to rape or even unwanted fertilization due to accidental damage of any birth control solution. These girls will normally be nourishing a baby that they do not want in their womb and abortion is most probably the solution for them. Why?
Aborted Baby Photo 1
Imagine a 16 year old girl who get pregnant. She is still a teen and cannot be responsible enough to care for a baby. She maybe got pregnant due to rape or even unprotected sex (which is another debate). There are some cases where a mother would prefer to go for abortion because of diseases or possible complications for her or the child which may result in more suffering.
Arguments against abortion
- Post-abortion trauma is common in many women who go for it. They often have nightmares and are affected psychologically with a fact that they killed a part of themselves. Killed a possible life. Killed what could have been.
- Abortion is often considered as killing a life by many even if the baby is not yet born. For a fact, after the 21 days of pregnancy itself, the baby heart starts to beat!
- There are risks of infections or even death due to excessive bleeding during abortion although that the death rate is quite very low and rare.
- Religion and God do not like this.
Arguments for legalization of abortion
- The woman has the right to decide whether she want to keep the baby or not since she is the one who will go through thhe labour and pain to give birth to the baby.
- The woman’s life is more important than an unborn baby. By life I mean the future and even career of the woman.
- By keeping abortion illegal, people who wanna do it will still do it illegally and can eventually be a danger for the woman itself.
- Illegal abortion mean more money spent and abortion done is not so hygiene conditions.
- Religion or god got a damn to do with a woman’s life and decision.
Coming back to Mauritius, I think that living in a supposedly democratic country women should be allowed to go for abortion if she want it and it should be legal. The bad side consisting of killing a life is upon the decision of the woman. At times is it not better to kill one to save two or more? Maybe its my bias opinion but I am always for the best possible outcome.
Many teens get pregnant nowadays. I can;t blame the teens for that. I won’t even say that teenage sex is bad. I am not superman to conclude on their life since I believe sex is a natural thing and this is another debate coming soon. However imagine a teen getting pregnant….imagine even a 20 year old girl getting pregnant when she has just got a job! Imagine a girl getting pregnant because a mother-f*cker raped here and it was too late since she hidden the fact out of shame! i think these girls or women got the right to go for an abortion IF THEY WANT!
